Mountain King or Mount Sibayak volcano is still active. It is in Tanah Karo, District Berastagi, North Sumatra. From Medan, can be reached by about 2 to 3 hours by bus. The mountain is very famous, because it is often held ascent by a community of nature lovers, and in it there are interesting sights, such as the Waterfall Two Colors. The mountain is always visited by climbers-climbers from out of town, because it is not very difficult mountain climb. Usually they do climb on Saturday until Sunday. At the peak of this mountain there is a sloping crater, which measures approximately 200 x 200 meters. From this peak you can see a view of the bustling city of Medan. The land around Mount Sibayak very fertile because of the effects of this eruption in the past. Local communities often take advantage of this eruption ash as fertilizer to grow crops.
This mountain has an altitude of 2,094 meters above sea level. Usually, these mountain climbers begin their adventure in the early morning, so that in the morning they can watch the sunrise. Along the way, your eyes will be spoiled with a view of green trees, birds singing melodious, refreshing and cool air. Incredible natural charm. On the side of the road which is often impassable for climbing route, there are also rivers that flow, the water was crystal clear, even a few can be taken directly, but it is recommended that cooked first.
At the peak of this mountain there is a crater that is unique, with rocks and smoke coming out from the crater. In the vicinity of the crater also contained sulfur material, which is a matter of the volcano. Sulfur is also utilized by the local community as soap. The reason is because sulfur can kill germs on the body. Not infrequently also the climbers climbing equipment wash them by taking brimstone which is in the vicinity of the crater. But the smell of sulfur is making some people allergic, because the smell was overpowering. The climbers usually set up their tents around the crater to rest, take pictures and unwind.
Mount Sibayak dubbed the Mountain King, because the meaning of words Sibayak by the local community is king. Once upon a time, Karo ruled by four kings (Sibayak), namely Sibayak Lingga, Sarinembah, Love, Barusjahe and Kutabuluh. To reach the top of this mountain, climbing route can be started from several places, from the village of King Berneh and from the City Berastagi. But climbing the shortest path can be started from the village of King Berneh, which is located about 7 km from the highway-Berastagi Medan.
